She doesn’t step on a crack

Afraid it’ll break her mother’s back

She doesn’t open an umbrella in the house

Doesn’t need more bad luck than she has now

She doesn’t make any funny faces

Afraid it’ll get stuck that way

She doesn’t walk in a black cat’s path

She’ll turn around, walk all the way back

She doesn’t walk under a ladder

She doesn’t think she can be any sadder

She doesn’t believe her wishes will come true

But she’ll throw a penny in a wishing well, sometimes two

 

She doesn’t care if others think she is deceived

She carries around a four leaf clover and some rabbits feet

She doesn’t cross her fingers or knock on wood

Seen so much bad she doesn’t believe in good

She doesn’t smile very much

Does her best not to judge

She doesn’t know about the man who died to save her

I saw her one day and told her about her maker

She didn’t want to hear any part

I prayer for her, prayed for her heart

A few weeks passed until I saw her again

She didn’t want to hear about Jesus, my friend

I asked her if we could just talk

She agreed and we started to walk

We talked about little things, like our jobs and the weather

She seemed to enjoy our walks together

She doesn’t trust most of those she meets

She slowly let her walls down over the weeks

I told her how I was once like her

Then someone told me about our savior

It wasn’t much longer until she said she wanted to hear more

More about this man I had mentioned before

I told of the words I knew

Gave her a Bible so she could read too

She doesn’t live like she did

She has a new way to live

She doesn’t believe in all that superstition

She has taken a new direction, a new mission

She doesn’t care about her past mistakes

She doesn’t remember her heartbreaks

She doesn’t live like she’s unloved

She knows she’s forgiven, she knows of grace from above

At The Corner Of Unicorn Lane

At the corner of Unicorn Lane

Right before you get to Leprechaun Street

There lives a…. I don’t want to tell you it’s name

It’s not something most would want to meet

Some say it’s small, like an elf, fairy or pixie

Some say it’s big, like a Sasquatch, an ogre, or a Nephilim

I have seen it and to talk about it is quite risky

What I will say  is that it doesn’t look like any of them

Some say it’s a hybrid, like a griffin, a Minotaur or a mermaid

Others say it’s a shapeshifter, a werewolf, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

I have seen it and trust me, don’t get in its way

The last person that did has disappeared, perhaps has died

I’ve heard some says it’s a Kirin or a dragon

I’ve heard some say it’s a Chupacabra or a vampire

I have seen it and it’s worse than you can imagine

I can understand that  you might think I’m a liar

Let me continue please

I’m not an expert but it’s important what I have to say

Trust me, it’s for your safety

For it doesn’t matter if it’s night or day

Some say it is a hideous creature

Others say it looks just like you and me

Some say it has the scariest features

It’s always different for those  unfortunate enough to see

So when you go down Leprechaun Street

And you get to the corner of Unicorn Lane

Please keep walking, I beg you to move your feet

Especially on a cold dark night when it starts to rain

Enough already! You exclaim. Just tell me does it really exist?

I hesitate, not sure if you can handle the truth

Please stop asking ! I can’t say! Oh, why do you insist?

Are you ready? Are you sure? It… it’s…. aahhhh it’s YOU!

For The Memories

For my mom. I know you will cry, especially being so close to dad’s going to Heaven three year celebration.  I am always thinking of you, praying for you, and loving you. Even though I don’t call home enough.

For The Memories

I booked that old hotel we always stayed at on the beach

The one you loved so much, the waves were within our reach

I made reservations at the restaurant you like

I took a walk on that trail you loved to hike

I bought that old movie you raved about

I know you love me, that’s no doubt

I bought two tickets to the baseball game

I had to laugh when it was cancelled because of rain

I got two scoops of ice cream, one for you, one for me

I changed the paint in the bedroom from blue to green

I got out that old rusty bike and took it for a spin

I was excited when we first got them way back when

I got out the boys old ball gloves

I think baseball was their first love

I dusted off all the old trophies they had won

Even though I knew the tears would come

I even got out a few of those old records

The scratches and hisses, the old covers made of cardboard

I got out the old photo albums

I remember  you were so handsome

I heard our granddaughter playing your old drums

I had to smile as she played to the words she would  hum

It’s all the small things I seem to miss

As I sit here and silently reminisce

All the things that were little all are now  grown

All the things we did together I now  do alone

For the memories,  filled with so much emotion

I reach for your hand and take a step into the ocean

I know it hasn’t been easy

Being married to me

I take two steps forward and three steps back

Tell you how much you mean to me then I attack

The voices in my head won’t go away

Some days I want to run and others days I want to stay

Through it all I want to say thank you for staying

The words I say I know are not nice

I’ve said I would stop more than twice

You deserve better than me

I have to be honest I can’t see

Why you have chosen to stay

I just wanted to thank you today

Thank you for staying

I know you need more conversation

I know I really should show more appreciaton

You are the sun that shines so bright

That will burn off this fog that consumes my nights

I know part of God must live in you

To stay through all the hell I put you through

I know it’s not easy but I wanted to say thank you for staying

I know these times are rough

You have proven you are more than tough

Where you get your strength from God only knows

Somehow your love only seems to grow

I would be an empty shell of a man

If you ever said I never want to see you again

I just wanted you to hear me say thank you for staying

God, Is This Your Answer?

God, I asked you to use me

The next day I was diagnosed with cancer

I don’t want to question you but if that’s your answer

God, there  must be another way I plea

God, I asked you to use me

The next day my wife tells me our marriage needs a makeover

I thought all was well, I need you to takeover

God, tell me this isn’t the way please

God, I asked you to use me

The next day my teenage daughter was killed by a drunk driver

Oh God , I am not supposed to survive her

God, can’t you see me down here on my knees

God, I asked you to use me

With you by my side I will fight this cancer

With you as my strength I accept your answer

With this disease I will show your glory

God, I asked you to use me

Just when  my marriage was falling apart

You stepped in and gave us a fresh start

God, you made a masterpiece out of all the debris

God, I asked you to use me

In my worst moment you made me strong

You helped me to forgive, to sing a new song

When he couldn’t forgive himself, he saw You in me

A Fight Worth Fighting For

She took her place at the back of the bus

The other passengers looked at her in disgust

She was brave, walked to the front and took a seat by the door

Rosa Parks knew this was a fight worth fighting for

Abraham Lincoln said a house divided against itself cannot stand

Civil war ensued and divided our great land

All persons held as slaves shall forever be set free

The fight he fought forever changed our history

Martin Luther King Jr. helped create the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Non-violent protests, Ending legal segregation forever more

He had a dream, all will be treated by their character and not the color of their skin

Sometimes I wonder when will we begin?

Barbara Johns was just sixteen years old

Protesting the conditions at the school she was enrolled

A boycott of classes, Four lawsuits filed across the nation

In 1954, the Supreme Court outlawed public school segregation

July 26th, 1990, the Americans With Disabilities Act was signed

A progression in recognizing all people of all categories was defined

All people should be treated equally, even when they are different

Common sense if you ask me but the passing of this act was significant

Susan B. Anthony and many others fought for years

For women’s rights for all their peers

They fought for fair hiring practices, paid maternity leave and child care

They fought for equal wages, to be treated fair

He said : I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love  have always won

Gandhi fought for Indian independence and in 1947 it was done

He believed  different religions could live together peacefully

A seeker of the truth he taught endlessly

She said: Not all of us can do great things but we can do small thing great love

Sister Teresa fought for the poor and was an angel from above

She lived to help all those in need

God’s very own servant indeed

Tortured, beaten, murdered for what they believed in

They know that Jesus  died for all their sins

Death was no longer feared, lives filled with hope and more

They knew that was a fight worth fighting for

 

We can all work together to unite the world

Every nation, every man, woman, boy, and girl

Hold each other’s hands through open doors

We all know it’s a fight worth fighting for

Birds Of A Different Color

We sit on this branch all flocked together

All of us birds of a different color

We fly from tree to tree and limb to limb

Helping whoever is in need for we are all friends

There was peace in the land, air and trees

We were brothers and sisters, no difference between you and me

Until one day the robin said I can do better on my own

Off to another land he had flown

Then cardinal said, I can do that too

Off to another land he flew

One by one they each left the branch

Scattered apart through out the distance

The only bird that stayed was the dove

Because he still believed the answer was love

One day the cardinal didn’t like the land he was in

He flew off and attacked the land of the robin

Then the yellow finch thought his land was too narrow

He went and attacked the land of the sparrow

The robin and the sparrow started a new land

Joining together, they formed a very strong clan

They attacked the yellow finch and the cardinal

The destruction of all the land was quite remarkable

Then the eagle was flying around

He couldn’t believe the destruction on the ground

He knew he had to make a stand

He had to do something to unite the land

What could he do? he thought in his head

If he didn’t do something soon, almost all the birds would be dead

He could use force, tear all the birds apart

But today , love was the only thing in his heart

He wanted to try love, to put it to the test

He flew down to them, he was much bigger than the rest

When the eagle came near

All the birds cowered in fear

But he gave them a helping hand

He helped them rebuild the land

He said “My fellow birds, is this how we want to live?”

“Instead of taking, we should learn to give.”

“Remember the time when we were never in need?”

“When one of us bled, we would all bleed?”

“Let all of this land be united as one.”

“It doesn’t matter our color, or where we came from.”

“Give love, teach love, be the love you want to see.”

“You see I have learned, the greatest change has to happen in me.”

With that said,  the birds joined together

To make this land great again, forever

The stars shine a different light

They seem to be a little more bright

These city streets always filled with noise

But tonight all I hear is your voice

I walk these streets, your hand in mine

It seems like I’ve done this a million times

But tonight feels different

Somehow the Dj seems to know

To play our song on the radio

I sing along, mostly out of tune

I sing our song to the moon

People look at me like I’ve lost my mind

They don’t know this love took me so long to find

That’s why tonight feels different

When we are apart

You take my heart

Its impossible to explain

How I feel when you call my name

My stomach is filled with butterflies

Every time I look in your eyes

But tonight feels different

You walk across the room and you shine so bright

It’s like  God gave you your very own spotlight

We dance, a little off beat

We kiss, your lips so sweet

We walk, hand in hand

I think I am a lucky man

 

I don’t know why but tonight feels different

Is tonight a long awaited answer to a prayer asked?

Is tonight a hope for the future, a forgetting of the past?

Is tonight a new beginning?

The Moon Keeps Chasing The Sun

I thought I knew where I was going with this but it might just be a lot of gibberish. Basic idea is trying to live this life without Jesus is like….

The moon keeps chasing the sun all the while it is waiting to be caught

A very smart friend said I could use her thought

So there, I used it before I forgot

That got me thinking about more lines

That maybe you could use from time to time

After all not using your brain isn’t a crime

Like a  dog chasin it’s tail

Like trying to slow dance with a snail

Like catching the horse in front of you on a carousel

Like the imagination of a child with a box of crayons

Like the singer dying but the band plays on

Like when the band stops but you march on

Like trying to throw darts in a hurricane

Like trying to convince you I am 100% sane

Like being caught red-handed but saying you aren’t to blame

Like being broke and but looking at all you just bought

Like going to school and forgetting what you were taught

Like  writing a book when you can’t think of the next thought

Like having the answers but forgetting the questions

Like a rooster saying its a hen

Like an elephant trying to fit in a rabbits den

Like writing a poem and saying its a book

Like thinking you’re not in trouble when your mom gives you that look

Like saying that’s a river when it’s only a brook

Like catching a touchdown pass when the quarterback still has the ball

Lie wiinning the Indy 500 but on  499 your car stalls

Like having a house with no walls

Like trying to finish before you started to begin

Like saying you are perfect because you don’t sin

Like being a Christian and saying Jesus isn’t your friend

Like trying to play a game when you don’t know the rules

Like thinking you’re the smartest when you’re actually the fool

Like being in first grade and thinking you should graduate school

Like trying to out run a train

Like being a passenger and trying to fly the plane

Like knowing who you are but forgetting your name

Like seeing an empty cross on a hill

Like  running when Simon says be still

Like trying to lose weight with some magic pill

Like trying to pitch a perfect game after you walked the first batter

Like trying to put the pieces of a mirror together after it shatters

Like trying to live this life like none of it matters

I don’t have to be an art critic to recognize a priceless piece of art

I don’t have the answers but that doesn’t mean I don’t start

How can I say no to someone who is chasing after my heart

There is a simple truth to be known

Three days later the tomb didn’t have a stone

Why live  in the darkness when His light has shown

Some things are deceptively easy to see

A captive saying he’s really free

I guess it all depends on what you believe

Have we all become mad or are we just blind

There was a time in the distant past when people were kind

Now it just seems like everyone takes selfies of their behind

Like spilling a glass of red wine on white carpet but not leaving a spot

Like me saying I’m going to heaven while watching my soul slowly rot

I’m chasing the SON but all the while He is there beside me waiting to be caught

Be still long enough to know He is there

What version of me

Will I let you see

The one who can smile through the pain

The one who dances in the rain

The one who keeps it all inside

The one who can’t find a safe place to hide

The one who screams at God to take it all away

The one that says yes God today is the day

The one who would take a bullet for you

The one who will walk away, find someone new

The one who has a million voices in his head

The one who will only listen to the one who bled

The one who has fears and doubts

The one who has life figured out

Tell me what version  you want to see

Does anyone want to know the real me

The hurt I feel, the anger locked away

The one who wonders who will listen to what I have to say

The one who says this one’s pretty good, maybe  they’ll like

The one whose voices in his head are always in a fight

The one who only knows how to pray

The one who says forget about it, live for another day

The one who loves with all his heart

The one who won’t let you know he fell apart

The one who wears the mask

The one whose real face won’t last

So tell me, what version do you want to see today

I can be that person if that’s the only way
