Birds Of A Different Color: The Sequel

Please take a minute to read part 1 : Birds Of A Different Color

The birds of the land lived in peace for quite a long time

They shared everything, what’s mine is yours and yours is mine

They sung songs together and visited each other’s nest

Peace, nothing to worry about when their feathers would lay down to rest

Then one day the unthinkable happened

The skies of blue suddenly blackened

During a training flight a blue jay crashed into a warbler

I can’t put into words, it was indeed horrible

Image result for blue jayImage result for black and white warbler and blue jay together

The warbler fell to the ground, it had been killed

Mourning came to the land, his little heart had been stilled

It didn’t take long for the warblers to blame the blue jays

Even though the birds that witnessed it said the warbler flew the wrong way

They demanded justice, the words were harsh that they spoke

They didn’t consider that the blue jays heart was broke

He was terribly sad for what happened but said he wasn’t to blame

The warblers attacked his nest, the land would never be the same

Attack after attack, nest after nest

None of the birds could find rest

A dark cloud had overtaken the trees

No bird was safe, no bird was free

The eagle couldn’t believe what his eyes did see

He thought, Have they forgotten our history?

Nothing good will come from this

He bowed his head and prayed his wish

O mighty father above, help me find a way

To help these birds remember our yesterday

When we nearly destroyed our homes, our land

We fought over the colors of our feathers right where they now stand

How eventually we put aside our differences and came together

We joined as one as we each held those different colored feathers

He opened his eyes and looked around

Hate wasn’t the answer, love had to be found

Image result for eagle talking to birds

He once again called a meeting

He searched hard for the words he would be speaking

He looked left, he looked right

He said “My fellow birds, why do we fight?”

“I’m not saying what happened was right or wrong

But don’t you remember when we all sang the same song?”

“Warblers, I know your hearts are bleeding

But violence isn’t the answer to what you are needing.”

“Blue Jays, I know your heart is breaking

But fighting back leaves only hate for the taking.”

“I ask both of you is this really the answer?

Look around, can’t you see the disaster

We’ve been here before, look in our history books

There can never be peace if we are all crooks.”

“I know what happened is a travesty

But anger and hate only leads to more tragedy!”

“I ask you birds, can we move on from the past?”

“Today is a new day, the anger and hate doesn’t need to last!”

“I ask you birds not to forget yesteryear

I tell you birds it’s okay to shed a tear

But let’s not let history repeat itself

It’s time we put hate and anger on the shelf!”

Image result for love is the only answer

“How easy it is to forget we are all one

I’m not asking you  to forget what is done!”

“I am asking you to join hands

Reunite all the birds in this land!”

“I’m asking you to look at your communities

Ask yourself, is this who we want to be?”

“If you have even an ounce of love in your heart

Let it ignite and become a spark!”

“We do not need to fear each other !”

“You are my sisters, you are my brothers!”

“I end with these word said not long ago

That love is all we need to know

We are all created to be equal

We all can live peaceful

Look into the depths of your hearts

And let today be a new start

But you must not let the evil of anger and hate

Destroy our land. It is not, it will not be our fate!”

It was then he looked up and saw a  dove

The symbol of peace, the message of love

It’s October

Image result for happy october

Since it is October 5th, I would hope most of you realized it is October.  The month of Halloween, camp fires, s’mores, roasting hot dogs on the camp fire.  Scary stories, witches and goblins. Cooler weather, leaves changing colors.

It is also the month of The Nationwide Children’s Half and Full Marathon that I once again will NOT be running. I signed up for the full knowing I was there mentally but had to get there physically. I did not. More injuries.  This time it is my left knee. It pops every time I straighten it. I don’t think that is a good thing. I think it is time to get checked out and get both my knees fixed.  Something to look forward to next year.

It is also the month for just about every cause and every thing there is. It is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, National Domestic Abuse/Violence Awareness Month, Stand Up To Bullying, Pastor Appreciation, Pizza,  Child Abuse Awareness Month, Cyber Security Awareness Month, Healthy Lung Month, Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), Jazz Awareness Month, Lupus Awareness Month, National Alcohol Awareness Week (Oct. 4-10), National Brain Injury Awareness Month,  National Disability Employment Awareness Month, National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (Oct. 15), National Liver Awareness Month, National Orthodontic Health Month, National Spina Bifida Awareness Month, Psoriasis Awareness Month, Rett Syndrome Awareness Month, Vegetarian Awareness Month, World Food Day (Oct. 16), and World Hepatitis Awareness Day (Oct. 1).

I think October is pretty busy.  I wonder why some of these organizations don’t pick another month?

I have written about many of these and will reblog them this month as well as my scary short stories, in case anyone has missed them. I may even surprise you and write a new short story.

Happy October.

I Remember…

I remember…

Going to the baseball all-star game in Cleveland

Gary Carter hit two home runs

The balls landed in the section beside us in the stands

I was hoping we would’ve caught one

I remember…

Going to see the Bengals play

Pete Johnson scored twice carrying the ball

But Earl Campbell ran all day

To the Houston Oilers the Bengals did fall

I remember…

Going to see the Big Red Machine

A doubleheader, two for the price of one

The Reds had one of the greatest teams

Dad, that was a lot of fun

I say these three things

Because as I’ve gotten older I realize

Sports weren’t your dream

But you took me because sports were big in my eyes

I remember….

Trying to take me fishing

Trying to have a conversation

All I was doing was wishing

So bored I was thinking of other temptations

I remember….

Teaching me how to change oil in the car

All the words that were spoken

My mind always drifting afar

Another ten minutes, you got to be joking

I remember….

The selfless acts you taught

The lessons you tried to teach

All the balls you caught

Times  you were there and I was just out of reach

I just wanted you to know

That all those things you said

All those words spoken so long ago

That I can still hear your voice in my head

I know I didn’t say it then

I’m sorry if I made you sad

I wish I had the time to spend with you again

I just wanted to say thank you dad

I remember….

In This Life I Call A Song

Image result for life in a song

I try to figure out who I am

And where I belong

Am I the chorus or just a note

In this life I call a song

Am I the hook?

Am I the bridge?

Am I a verse?

What is my image?

life, music, quotes, songs, stories, untold

Do I have rhythm?

Do I have a melody?

Do I blend together?

Am I simply a harmony?

Am I a symphony or an orchestra?

Am I the lead guitar?

Lead vocal or drummer?

Am I background or the star?

Image result for life in a song

Am I a bass or a cello?

A clarinet or a flute?

An organ or a piano?

Do I sing for me or for you?

Am I rock or rap?

Country or gospel?

Do I build people up?

Or am I harmful?

Image result for life in a song

Am I constructed carefully?

Am I just a bunch of noise?

Am I a tenor, baritone or somewhere in between?

What kind of voice?

Am I a one hit wonder?

Am I a classic to remember?

Will you remember me in years to come?

Am I just another pretender?

Image result for bible verses a song to sing

Will I always be missing a part?

Can I put all the parts together as one?

Start as a note or a word

And pray God can keep me from coming undone

I look around and wonder who I am

And where I belong

What part am I

In this life I call a song

She Doesn’t

Image result for superstitious

She doesn’t step on a crack

Afraid it’ll break her mother’s back

She doesn’t open an umbrella in the house

Doesn’t need more bad luck than she has now

She doesn’t make any funny faces

Afraid it’ll get stuck that way

She doesn’t walk in a black cat’s path

She’ll turn around, walk all the way back

She doesn’t walk under a ladder

She doesn’t think she can be any sadder

She doesn’t believe her wishes will come true

But she’ll throw a penny in a wishing well, sometimes two

She doesn’t care if others think she is deceived

She carries around a four leaf clover and some rabbits feet

She doesn’t cross her fingers or knock on wood

Seen so much bad she doesn’t believe in good

She doesn’t smile very much

Does her best not to judge

She doesn’t know about the man who died to save her

I saw her one day and told her about her maker

She didn’t want to hear any part

I prayer for her, prayed for her heart

A few weeks passed until I saw her again

She didn’t want to hear about Jesus, my friend

I asked her if we could just talk

She agreed and we started to walk

We talked about little things, like our jobs and the weather

She seemed to enjoy our walks together

She doesn’t trust most of those she meets

She slowly let her walls down over the weeks

I told her how I was once like her

Then someone told me about our savior

It wasn’t much longer until she said she wanted to hear more

More about this man I had mentioned before

I told of the words I knew

Gave her a Bible so she could read too

She doesn’t live like she did

She has a new way to live

She doesn’t believe in all that superstition

She has taken a new direction, a new mission

She doesn’t care about her past mistakes

She doesn’t remember her heartbreaks

She doesn’t live like she’s unloved

She knows she’s forgiven, she knows of grace from above

Sometimes It’s More Than A Game

Image result for choosing to live a christian life instead of a game quotes

What a great first weekend of college football. The Buckeyes looked like they might be better than last years team. You know, the team that had a record number of NFL draft picks.  It is early. We will see how how the rest of the season goes.
It was great to see the upsets. Houston beating Oklahoma. Texas A&M beating UCLA in overtime. Wisconsin beating LSU. Clemson almost losing to Auburn. Tennessee almost losing to Appalachian State. South Alabama beating Mississippi State. Western Michigan upsetting Northwestern. Richmond upsetting Virginia.

Texas upset Notre Dame on Sunday night. Texas was my first choice of schools to go to but out of state tuition was/is too expensive so I became a Buckeye instead.

Most of the SEC struggling to win or lost. Seven SEC teams losing in week 1.

Alabama  losing. Oh yeah, that was just a dream. They looked unbeatable , but they said that two years ago also.

All these great games, close games, upsets, etc…..

But sometimes it’s more than a game.

James Conner, star running back for Pittsburgh, coming back from Hodgkins Lymphona cancer.  He broke Tony Dorsett’s records that had stood for 38 years. He was invincible…until he wasn’t. He played in the first game in 2015 then was out the rest of the year battling for his life. You can read his story in his own words here :

Travis Rudolph, Florida State wide receiver,  was visiting a school and saw a boy eating alone. He sat down and joined him for lunch. The boy, Bo Paske, has autism and often eats lunch by himself. Travis says he didn’t think it was that big of a deal. We are all the same and one man can make a difference. You can read the full article here:

Sarah Hill, the wife of Weber State’s head coach Jay.  She was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Weber State football players, coaches, family and friends shaved their heads in support.  At the end of each practice they chant How strong are we? Strong like Sara. You can read the story here :

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Sara Hill hugs her daughter Allie, 5, after she and her husband, Weber State football coach Jay Hill, talked about her battle with Hodgkins lymphoma and how the Wildcat family has rallied around her and her husband at Stewart Stadium, Wednesday, August 24, 2016. Weber State football players, coaches and family and friends shaved their heads in support of her chemotherapy treatments.

The one that really brought a tear to my eye is Nebraska. On July 23rd, they lost their senior punter Sam Foltz in a car accident. Michigan State punter Mike Sadler also passed away in the accident. On Nebraska’s first punt of the game they only sent out 10 players, the punter didn’t go out. They took a delay of game which the opposing team, Fresno State, respectfully declined. Tell me you don’t get goose bumps watching this video.
