Seven new musician followers this week. Will split them up between this post and the next. Too much good music and didn’t want to bombard all in one post. SO, this is part one. May is graduation month. I wrote this a year ago. Hope you like it. Let’s turn it into a song- contact me.
Graduation Song
Going off to college
Filling your head with knowledge
Don’t wish away your youth
Never forget God is the truth
Maybe college isn’t your thing
Maybe you have some other dream
Don’t be afraid to reach for the stars
Having a good character will take you far
When challenges face you
Ask what would Jesus do
When you are pressured
Remember in God you are treasured
Put your faith in Jesus
He is always with us
When you are up late at night
I pray you will do what is right
My child, going out on your own
Hard to believe how fast you’ve grown
I know in God’s arms you will be held
I put my trust in He who has never failed
Choose your friends wisely
Don’t follow them blindly
Call home more than you thought you would
Say I love you more than you think you should
Don’t forget where you come from
Remember when this life is done
You will account for your time on this earth
Did you live for what His dying was worth
Forgive as you have been forgiven
Be joyful in this life you are livin’
Smile and laugh, speak of Him often
His words are never to be forgotten
My child, going out on your own
Hard to believe how much you’ve grown
I know in God’s arms you will be held
I put my trust in He who has never failed
Our house will always be your home
It’s hard to believe how fast you’ve grown
Enjoy life, you won’t be alone in the big out there
God’s promises, our love, we will always care
My child, going out on your own
Hard to believe how much you’ve grown
I know in God’s arms you will be held
I put my trust in He who has never failed
I put my trust in He who has never failed

I Question You by Lily Messer –
On Itunes : https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/i-question-you-single/id1018588943
He was rolling down the mountain at a break neck speed. He could not believe how fast he was going. He tried to slow down, but he couldn’t figure out how. Once a pebble gets rolling, there is only one thing to stop him. He saw them in the distance but they were getting closer and closer the faster he went. There was no way to avoid the big, bad boulders so he just closed his eyes and
SMACK !!!
“Hey pebble, what do you think you are doing??!!” shouted the boulders. “Can’t you see how close to the edge we are? We have been balancing on this ledge for a very long time. We don’t need a little pebble like you messing our situation up.”
The pebble shook with fear. He had never seen boulders that big before. “I-I-I’m ssssorry. I didn’t mean to hit you but I was going so fast I couldn’t stop. Thank you for stopping me though. Do you think I could stay here?”
The boulders answered with a stern “NO!! We don’t need you here. You are not one of us and would mess our lives up with all your little talk.”
The pebble didn’t like their answer but went on his way. He tried to take it slower but with each downward slope and each breath of wind that blew he didn’t have much choice. He was so small he went wherever the wind blew him. Most days he didn’t mind, every day was an adventure. He never knew where he would end up. Other days, he just wanted to stop and fit in somewhere. He wanted someone to like him, for him to be a part of something bigger than him.
A big gust of wind started to blow and off the pebble went again. He was going so fast he would hit the ground then bounce up in the air. He felt like he was flying. “This must be how the birds feel,” he thought to himself.
Oh crap, more boulders ahead, the pebble screamed inside. “Look out boulders, I am coming right at you. I can’t stop!!!” yelled the pebble.
Once again the pebble was met with disdain. “Get out of here pebble. We are way too powerful for you. Do you NOT realize that we can squash you if we wanted to. You are too tiny to live here. Be on your way before we change our minds and decide to hurt you.”
The pebble didn’t waste any time scurrying from that place. He thought, What is wrong with all these boulders?Don’t they realize I don’t mean to smash into them. I’m just trying to find my way. Like I could ever hurt them anyway.
It was then he heard a small voice in the wind.” Go pebble go. Go where the wind takes you. You are more powerful than you know. Everything that is and has happened to you is for a reason. I didn’t mean you any harm when you crashed into those boulders. I was using you to try to change their hearts. To learn to be more accepting. To love something other than their own pile of boulders. It is not too late for them for you have planted a seed everywhere I have sent you. The choice is theirs. You tried. Keep trying and going forward. Do not be afraid.”
The pebble looked around but did not see anyone. Strange, he thought. At that time another gust of wind picked him up and took him on his way.
Not again, seriously, the pebble thought unbelieving. Why can’t I crash into a pile of grass or a stream of water. Why another pile of boulders? He braced himself for impact.
SMACK!!!!
This time the boulders didn’t yell at him. “Help us,” said the boulders. “We are about to fall off the edge.”
“How can I help you? I am just a small pebble,” the pebble asked. He was thinking this had to be some kind of trick.
“We are about to fall off the edge and we have been asking for someone like you. See this small hole in between us? We need you to jump in there and seal it so we can be strong. With you securing that hole, we don’t have to worry about falling off the ledge.”
Wow, thought the pebble. They really need me. “You can count on me,” he bravely said. “I have been wanting a place to settle down. A place that will accept me for who I am.”
He then jumped right into the hole and secured the boulders together.
“Thank you,” he humbly said. To the boulders and to that small voice he heard.
It was then they heard this rumbling coming down the mountain. All these boulders were falling all around them but , miraculously, none of the falling boulders hit them. The pebble recognized them as the same boulders who yelled at him and told him they didn’t want him.
“Thank you,” said the boulders he was with now. ” Without you, we would’ve had the same fate as those boulders. You saved us pebble.”
Normally on my days off I “sleep in” until 7-730. This morning, I was awakened at 5:57 with these words and they just came pouring out. I can only say God was moving early this morning.
Five year old little man
Doesn’t seem to quite understand
Why he only sees his dad every other weekend
What has happened to til death do us part, do not commit adultery?
Everyone only looking out for number one
They don’t give a crap about the damage they’ve done
Only living for the moment , living for fun
What has happened to caring about someone else?
In a democracy we now have the minority that rules
We have men able to use the bathroom of my little girl
I just can’t comprehend what’s happening to this world
What has happened? God, what is happening?
When did our homes become a house of cards
My feelings, when did you start to disregard?
Man, life isn’t supposed to be this hard
What has happened to the golden rule ?
Hurting each other no matter the cost
Will there be another holocaust?
Can’t we see all we’ve lost, we’ve all lost
What has happened, what happened to my voice?
The entire world seems to be living in sin
They don’t care about the way they live
They don’t care about how little they give
What has happened to compassion and empathy?
The animals go extinct at alarming pace
The judges common sense has been erased
Since when does every one have to win the race?
What has happened to one nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all?
We spend more than we make
Keeping up with Jones’ for the Smith’s sake
When are we going to wake up? Are you awake?
What has happened to saving for a future?
When the majority stands up to the few we get pulled under
Shows get cancelled , majority loses, is it any wonder ?
We sit by and watch it get worse, can you hear the distant thunder?
What has happened God, how much longer ?
Health care can’t afford, no worries, someone else will pay
Climate change, getting warmer each and every day
Claim ignorance is bliss if you can’t hear what I say
What has happened to living how Jesus taught us to be ?
The ones that are to protect us are killing
The ones that are to save our money are stealing
Our kids won’t get better when dealers are dealing
What has happened to integrity and honesty ?
People killing people in our streets, in our cities
Sending our soldiers to fight wars in other countries
This world’s a mess, has it ever been pretty?
What has happened to love God, love your neighbor?
Our government allows sugar and toxic chemicals in our food
Our tv shows, our music, our words are becoming more lewd
My words represent the majority yet they are booed
What has happened to treating people right instead of just making a profit?
Not too long ago the Cold War came to an end
The Berlin Wall fell, reuniting family and friends
Today, new rules, new laws, borders changing without end
What has happened ? God what is happening?
God and me, we love you for who you are
If you live near me or if you live afar
Look up, we are all living under the same stars
What has happened to my rights and what I believe in?
We’ve taken God out of schools, work and lives
We tell Him we don’t need Him then run and hide
Then we have the nerve to ask God why
What has happened? I ask you my friends, what is happening?

I will post about the race today and our trip tomorrow.
First off, I want to say how proud I am of my wife, Kim. She completed a marathon that most runners can only dream of being able to run. She didn’t get the time she wanted, 3:30, but it was warm for running and there was a head wind. Even the winners had slower times than expected. The commentators kept asking experts why do you think the pace is slow today. The winning male was 2:12 and female 2:29. Pretty slow to me lol. However, her time of 3:46 did qualify her to run it again next year if she decides to.
Most of my comments will be from my wife obviously, since I did not run it, but I will add my two cents here and there. Kim loved the athlete village and the corals. She felt like it was much more organized than NYC. Maybe that was because there is half the amount of runners as in NYC. She felt the course was more congested than she thought it would be. Since a lot of it are on two lane roads going through neighborhoods, she felt for the first half she was constantly having to hold her arm out to keep from running into people or them running into her. Several times her feet were clipped by other runners but, luckily, she did not fall.

A quick recap of the winners before I get back into Kim’s race:
Below are the winning push rim (wheelchair) for male and female. The men’s race came down to the last few feet. What an exciting finish. The male winner,Marcel Hug, defended his title by less than a second. The female winner, Tatyana McFadden, won by a minute and fourteen seconds.
Below are the winning men and women about 100 yards from the finish. If you did not see the race it was crazy. The winning women, Atsede Baysa, was 37 seconds back at 35k. In the last 4.5 miles or so she made up that 37 seconds and passed the two leading women at mile 24 and won by 44 seconds. Do the math, in the last 4.5 miles she was running about 19 seconds per mile faster than the leaders. Crazy.
The men’s winner, Lemi Berhanu Hayle, was equally impressive pulling away in the last two miles. Mile 24 was a 4:56 pace. Only in my dreams. Put your treadmill on 12 and try to run as far as you can. He was going faster than that….. for longer.
Back to Kim:
The congestion affected her time first 5k time (8:06 per mile) was about a minute off where she needed to be to finish at 3:30. Her 10k split time was a little better. Through 10k (6.2 miles) she had improved to 8:03 per mile for this 5k section. She kept improving and her 15k time she was 8:01 per mile. She slowed down for the next 5k and her 20k time she was at 8:08 per mile for that 5k section.. At the half way point she was at 1:45:42. ( 8:03 pace) and was only about a minute and half off her goal for 3:30. Not bad considering the congestion but she still had the hills to go. Might I add she was also pretty consistent for every 5k.
She said the crowds at Wellesley College were crazy. The crowd noise was so loud she couldn’t hear her music but it was inspirational. A good pick up of encouragement.
(image credit David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports)
She slowed down for the next 5k section and averaged 8:26 per mile at the 25k mark. She then hit the hills of Newton for the next 5k and averaged 9:02 per mile. She then hit the section with Heartbreak Hill and averaged 9:34 per mile for 30k to 35k. She said by that point it felt like her quads were going to fall off. She stopped and applied leg cramp creme that they were passing out. By this time they were running into a head wind and Kim was sick of running in wind. For training it is all we had. I think she mentally checked out and walked some. Her next 5k time to get her to 40k she averaged 9:43 per mile. She picked it up to the finish line and did the last little bit at 9:16 per mile and had an overall pace of 8:39. This was 40 seconds per mile off what she wanted to be at to finish in 3:30 but she is happy with her time. She finished and wasn’t injured. And still qualified for next year.
Kim, in the pink, finishing strong :
She really isn’t hurting or sore now. She seems to be in good shape and knowing her like I do, she is probably itching to go for a run. It is hard for her to stop and rest. I have to keep reminding her that even the best like Meb and Shalane and Amy Kragg all take two to three weeks off after running a marathon. I can’t imagine Kim ever taking three weeks off, she would go bonkers.
Overall, it was an enjoyable event for our family. We had beautiful weather. I wish there were more places we could have seen Kim during the race but that just isn’t possible with Boston Marathon course.
I know this was a lot of running jargon with pace per mile and split times and all that but I hope you enjoyed reading about Kim’s race experience.
