When the darkness came, I let it come

I didn’t hide and I sure as heck didn’t run

It just kept coming and coming

I know I should have done something

I watched it as it got closer and closer

I let it engulf me, I let it take over

Each passing minute I was losing light

But I was tired, too tired to fight

Have you been there? When nothing is left

When the darkness is no longer a guest

But a full-time occupant, permanent resident

The time is coming, the end is imminent

I wish I could’ve fought, I really did

I wish I would’ve ran, would’ve hid

The darkness came for me, it was hunting

My strength was gone so I did nothing

There’s only me, only me to blame

For I let it come when the darkness came

Jeremy’s locker was next to mine

I never bothered to take the time

Me and Jeremy were not close

We never even really spoke

I was captain of the football team

He always wore black shirts with black jeans

He was a loner but never alone

God and the devil were in the same home

I had questions but here’s my confession

Didn’t know he suffered from depression

But he made one hell of an impression

When he read that Bible out loud

Then one night the demons won the fight

When Jeremy committed suicide

Not even God could bring back his life

That morning when his body was found

Lots of things I thought I knew

Turned out to be very few

Words I wish I would’ve said

Forever stuck in my head

Next to me is an empty space

I’ve even spent time at his grave

So many words I didn’t say

I wonder if he knows he changed my life

I learned about God, still learning to pray

Maybe Jeremy would be alive today

If I took a few seconds to say hey

I wouldn’t have a lifetime asking why

We’ve been hurting for so long

But we keep singing the same song

And maybe I’m wrong

I’m done watching the news

I’m going to turn off the tv

Take some time for me

I’m not going to apologize

For not listening to the lies

Putting it all in a box

Praying it will all stop

Cause there’s been enough hurt for today

Not much else for me to say

I know it’s not going to go away

Maybe it’s only a delay

Finding some alone time to pray

Cause there’s been enough hurt for today

Not going to think about tomorrow

All the hate, all the sorrow

I know there’s more for me to know

Not going to think about the shootings

The virus, the death, the violence, the looting

Need a win, tired of the losing

Going to think about something else

I was feeling a little down on my luck

Met a man who said his name was Chuck

Then he said, did you know the devil was dead ?

So we sat together and broke bread

Man, he could tell a story

He told me I had nothing to worry

We had a couple shots and a few beers

He told me again, I had nothing to fear

Then he looked me in the eye and said

Hey, man, did I tell you the devil was dead ?

I was thinking maybe I was wrong

To sit there and talk, but it’s been so long

Since God’s shown up around here

So we ordered a few more beers

Then he told me a few jokes

Through all the dark days

Through all the darker nights

When I had lost my way

When I had lost my sight

When my mind was wheel

That kept getting stuck in the mud

When nothing could I feel

When I was always stuck

When the grass had turned brown

When the leaves had fallen from the tree

When snow had covered the ground

It was Christmas Eve all through the land

All the birds stared in amazement at the Christmas tree so grand

The little birds could barely contain their excitement

The older birds looked on, filled with contentment

The eagle remembered how far they have come

He remembered all the work ALL the birds have done

Which made this day an even more special day

All these beautiful birds were there

They could hardly believe their ears

When the animals said: “There is nothing here to fear!”

“Yes, at one time we were all enemies!”

“We decided to let love rule our hearts until our eyes could see!”

Then the humans held each other’s hands

All the different people across the land

Blacks and whites, Muslim and Christian

All races, all people, could see the animals vision

The eagle then spoke once again:

“One last thing to say my friends.”

“To move forward you must move on from the past!”

“You have to live as last is first and first is last.”

“Let every man, every woman, every boy, every girl

Know what it’s like to have peace in this world!”

“Let ALL our voices join together as we sing Silent Night!”

Then they sang Joy To The World  and We Wish You A Merry Christmas

I can only say it’s all true, as I was there to witness

All the birds of a different color

Helped all the people discover

Instead of fighting they should ALL join hands

Because love is the only way to rule the land

Christmas will come

No matter what you’ve done

Whether you believe or not

It doesn’t matter if you forgot

He came to fulfill His obligation

There is no need for negotiation

Many said He wasn’t God, they lied

He was born, He lived, He was crucified

Christmas is about His birth

He came to show us our worth

Born with a silver spoon or born in a slum

Have no doubt Christmas will come

It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor,

Find it in your heart or in a store

If you live in America or Tel Aviv

It doesn’t matter what you believe

If you have or haven’t heard of Him

Whether your light is bright or dim

Santa Claus is not the reason

That we celebrate this season

If you can buy ten gifts or none

Have no doubt,  Christmas will come

A long time ago on a cold December morn

A beautiful, wonderful baby boy was born

I sat on Santa’s lap

And I whispered in his ear

Everything I hoped to get

Then I slipped and I pulled his beard

It was an accident

as I fell from his knee

But he was quite mad

I said Santa I’m so sorry

I didn’t get a ho ho ho

He didn’t even say that’s quite all right

So I slowly walked away

And when I went to sleep that night

I couldn’t help but wonder

Even though I was good all year

If I would be forgotten on Christmas Eve

All because I pulled Santa’s beard

The Reindeer Revolt- The Poem

‘Twas the week before Christmas

And there was trouble at the North Pole

Several of Santa’s reindeer wanted out of the business

They said working every Christmas Eve is getting old

They told Santa they wouldn’t be flying this year

Led by Donner but followed by Comet, Vixen, and Prancer

Donner tried to organize all the reindeer

But Cupid, Blitzen, Dasher, and Dancer

Those four said no, we enjoy traveling around the globe

We only work one day a year

We love seeing the children and bringing hope

Bringing wonders, gifts, and cheer

We have 364 days of rest and that is just one perk

We can train and relax and take long vacations

You are silly for protesting one night of work

There is no reason for you four to have this frustration

The arguing and bickering was causing more of a division

Both sides believed they were right

Cupid, Blitzen, Dasher, and Dancer made a difficult decision

They agreed right there and then on that fateful night

They had been friends and worked together for years

But the time had come and they could no longer be friends

Donner, Comet, Vixen, and Prancer changed too much it appears

The stress and the fighting seemed to never end

They were sad but they knew they had to go their own way

If they stayed friends Santa would think they revolted too

They liked their jobs and knew there was nothing else they could say

So they severed all ties, it wasn’t easy but it was the wisest thing to do

Santa came and saw the division that had taken place

He saw how Cupid, Blitzen, Dasher, and Dancer had to decide

To not associate with the others that would bring them disgrace

Santa knew he had to find four new reindeer for his sleigh ride

Cupid, Blitzen, Dasher, and Dancer would persevere

They were joined by Cinnamon, Gumdrop, Sparkles, and Peppermint

So listen up my friends and learn from these reindeer

If you hang with the wrong crowd it is only imminent

That you too will find yourself in a sticky situation

And in trouble you will find yourself likely

To have a sturdy house you must have a strong foundation

Listen to your heart and choose your friends wisely
