This I Believe

I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God and my lord and savior. I believe that Mary was a virgin who gave birth to the savior of the world.  I believe that Jesus was born in a little town called Bethlehem. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins. I believe that He rose on the third day. I believe that Jesus will come back again.

I believe that Jesus is the light in this dark world. I believe in God the Father. I believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe You are three in one. I believe that You are love.

I believe in You. I believe in You. I believe in You.

The Christmas Tree

From the time she was a small sapling she knew what she was born for. She was born and raised on a Christmas tree farm. She heard stories from her family and friends about how one day she would be picked to go be inside someone’s house.

FullSizeRender (1)

Each year she grew a little bigger but each year she kept hearing people say the same thing. “She isn’t big enough.” “Her branches are still too weak.” “Her needles are too thin.”

IMG_0788

She would wonder the same thing each year. “What’s wrong with me? Why doesn’t anyone want me? ”

Another year passed and she thought for sure this would be the year. She was almost as big as all the other trees but it was the same old story for our Christmas tree. “She isn’t quite there yet.” “She’s almost full enough but not as full as we want.” “Her branches still aren’t strong enough.”

IMG_0771

Many more years passed and she still wasn’t being picked. She was really starting to wonder what was wrong with her. She was bigger than almost all the other trees. Her branches were fuller and stronger than the other trees. Other trees that were born after her were being picked but she still wasn’t. “Why doesn’t anyone want me?”  “When will my time come?”

Another year passed and she was a full ten feet taller than any other tree. She had beautiful branches but she still wasn’t being picked. Now she heard things likes she’s too big, she can’t fit in our house, we don’t have enough lights and decorations to complete her.

Our Christmas tree was so sad. No one wanted her when she was young and small and no one wanted her when she was old and tall. She was thinking she will never know what it’s like to be decorated and look so lovely.

Our Christmas tree continued to grow and by the next year she was seventy-five feet tall. She could see the entire farm. That was when she saw this big truck coming on  the farm. They came right up to her. One guy got out and looked at her and said “this tree is what we have been looking for. She will look beautiful at Rockefeller Center. We will decorate her and have so many lights on her. Millions of people will see her and admire how beautiful she is!”

Moral of the story is God will use you in His time. Be faithful and trust in Him and He will use you in ways you would never believe. We just have to be patient and wait for our calling.

Dear God, We Are Worth Saving

Dear God,

I look around at this world you created and I can’t help but shake my head. We deplete the world of animals and natural resources. Gone, extinct, never to be seen again. All so that we can have what we want when we want it. Then, at least in America, we throw away, also known as waste, half of the food we have.

Another mass shooting. 353 of them in America alone this year. Why God? Do they  think they will be famous? Live in notoriety? Do they think their name will live forever? Yes it’s all over the news for a few weeks but then it’s easily forgotten. We have gotten so used to it we are desensitized from it. Why don’t we talk more about the victims God?  If the news never mentioned the killers but talked about the lives lost maybe they won’t kill.

Another drunk driver, another death caused by texting while driving, another person stealing from the elderly, another this, another that. God, there is  always something happening that is discouraging. There has to be a point where you just say you have had enough and wipe us out like in Noah’s days.

I know I have doubted myself, am I even worth saving? Am I worth the price you paid God? Then I remember that you don’t make mistakes so you must think I am worth dying for, I am worth saving.

God, we are worth saving. I know you already think that because you sent your son to die for us. You let Him die for us because you know we are worth saving. Let me give you a few examples of why we are worth saving.

Johnnie Hodges, a WWII veteran was evicted from his home that he lived in sixty years because he fell behind on his payments due to his late wife’s hospital bills. Greg Elwood, a complete stranger set up a Go Fund Me account and over 5 months more than 2,000 people donated and raised $110,000 so he could get his home back.

Natalie Conkel from San Lorenzo, California is celebrating this Christmas as her first without her husband, who passed away. Someone stole her Christmas light machine that projected green and red lights on her house. Her neighbors surprised her by donating decorations and decorating her house.

In Anaheim California a homeless woman entered a Raising Cane’s restaurant asking everyone for any leftovers they may have. Carmen Mendez made a simple gesture and  bought her a meal.

George Dimopoulos, from Northville, Michigan, owns George’s Senate Coney Island restaurant. Every Thanksgiving he opens his doors to anyone who is alone, homeless or whatever can come to his restaurant and get a free meal. He does this because he believes in you God and believes he should help the least of these.

Muslim families have bonded together and have so far raised $57,000 for the victims of the San Bernardino tragedy. Muslims also raised $100,000 to help rebuild the black churches burnt down this past summer in the south. God, we keep hearing about the killers and how they were Muslim but how come this isn’t on the news?

The city of Houston Texas has provided 4,114 homeless veterans and their families with permanent housing. By the way New Orleans, Louisiana has eliminated veteran homelessness by doing the same. The states of Utah, Connecticut and Virginia have all done the same. The entire states, God. How come I haven’t heard about this?

Kay Brown, from New York City, was riding the subway home and saw a homeless woman get on the train with no shoes. She gave her the shoes right off her own feet.

God, I know you know us better than we do but I just wanted to have it on the record that we are worth saving. There is a lot of good in this world. There are a lot of good people in this world God. I know one day you will come back and we will all have to account for what we have done here. On that day you will save all the ones that have done your work here on earth. On that day God, we will know who was worth saving. Until then, thank you for giving all of us that chance.

The Day After

We get married. We have a beautiful wedding and reception, usually an overly expensive one. We have a wonderful honeymoon. We are living the fairy tale. We then wake up in our new lives together. The day after we realize how much in-debt we are in our married life.

We celebrate birthdays with new gifts and toys. We often buy or get things we want but not what we need. The day after they are pushed aside or forgotten about.

We give thanks at Thanksgiving for all we are thankful for. The day after we go fight people for the last item on the shelf. The day after we drive ourselves insane for Black Friday sales. The day after we sleep less and shop more to get more things we could do without.

We celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas. We go to church on Christmas Eve, for some of us the only time we go all year.  We open presents and have family dinners. Do we remember why?  The day after we take back gifts others lost sleep to get us. The day after we take a deep breathe and are glad it’s over. Do we remember the reason for Christmas the day after ?

There was a time when a man named Jesus walked this earth and performed miracles. He let the blind see and the lame walk.  He raised the dead to life, He walked on water. But yet the day after, many forgot and did not believe what they just witnessed.

I know many times in my life I will feel God’s presence and I will feel like I am on top of the world. But then the day after I choose my sinful ways again.

One day Jesus will come back. The end of times will be here and there will be no day after on this earth. Will you take the time to know Jesus today, to spread the good news of his life and what He has done in your life so that you will know where you will be the day after?

Where will you be the day after?

The Story Of A Snowflake

This is a story of a snowflake. A unique and one of a kind snowflake. All snowflakes are  made that way by their creator.

The snowflake in our story was filled with joy. He loved being a one of a kind snowflake. He has his own personality and demeanor. He truly enjoyed being a snowflake.

When it was his time to go and fall to the ground he was ready. He remembered everything he had been taught. He remembered how much he was loved. The most important of these was to spread the word of love. To teach others what a true, sincere, and  unique kind of love looks like.

As he was falling to the ground he looked around at all of the other snowflakes. He could see they all were different than him, but they all had the same smile that he did. They were all so happy to finally being on their way to fulfill their destiny.

Then they all hit the ground and stopped. They were all piling on top of each other. Many were not happy. They started to complain.  How easily they forgot the joy they had just a few minutes ago.

Some of the angry snowflakes were getting so angry that they were starting to melt. Their anger was also affecting other snowflakes around them because they started to get angry also. Even the ones that were not getting angry were being affected because they started to melt also. They were unable to get themselves out of the situation they were in. They needed help.

Meanwhile, other snowflakes saw what was going on and turned their hearts away from the snowflakes that needed help. Their hearts grew so cold that they started to turn to ice. As their icy hearts expanded, they affected other snowflakes around them. The snowflakes that were filled with joy a few minutes ago were now filled with icy hearts and turning other joy filled hearts to ice also. They needed help.

Our snowflake saw all that was going on and remembered what he was taught. He started talking about their creator and his love for them. He talked about the joy that should be in their hearts. The joy they had just a few minutes ago. He reminded them how they all felt just a few minutes ago and not to let their circumstance affect how they feel.

They should be joyful. Look at the children coming out to play. All with smiles on their faces. Look at how happy we have made them. All by just being who we were created to be.

Oh, how the snowflakes loved the children. It was a love with no end. They loved to hear the giggles and to see all the smiles. They even loved to hear the joys of screams as the children rode their sleds over them. It reminded our snowflake about how much the creator loved him. He remembered how much he loved talking and laughing with the creator. He remembered everything he was taught and he knew changes were coming.

Warmer weather will come and our snowflakes circumstances changed again. Our snowflake and his friends changed from unique snowflakes to drops of rain but their purpose was still the same. They will nourish the earth and provide the people with water to drink and water to grow their food. This is what we they were made to do.

They enjoyed many things in their lives, especially the children, but they each knew that they were brought here for a purpose. Sometimes they found themselves in unbearable situations but those that remembered their purpose never faulted. They stayed strong when others grumbled. They loved when others hated. Some had to change from snow to rain to fulfill their purpose but they did so with love. They knew that not all people would listen to them when they were snowflakes. Not all people cared for the snow. They had to adapt to the world around them and changed to rain so that others would hear the message of love, taught to them by their creator.

Like the snowflake, we are a community all made by our creator with one purpose and we will fulfill that purpose one way or the other. We each have our own unique blend of personalities, demeanor, and gifts. We also have to learn to adapt to our situations. What we talk about God to someone today might not work with the person we meet tomorrow. We have to speak love in a language our recipients want to hear. Do not judge, only love. We need to keep doing what we were put here by our creator to do and let Him, through us, open the eyes and hearts of those around us.

I’m Not Superman

I wrote these lyrics when I was going through a difficult time. Everyone seemed to be telling me to just forget it, it won’t happen again, why can’t you just drop it etc etc.  Even though I was doing my best, things would still happen and remind me and everything would come up again. It was like I was watching a scary movie and every time I got past the part that made me jump, someone would hit rewind.

It also reminds me of this time of year. As you know I am an introvert and this time of year always makes me anxious. I get thrown out of my routines. Christmas parties and Christmas shopping and the crowds of people and just the busyness of the season gets to me. I am trying to do better at just taking a few deep breaths and remember the real reason for the season, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was born. It was just a few years ago I couldn’t have said that. I am a work in progress, one that I know will always have improvements to make.

Anyway, here are the lyrics. If anyone wants to put music to it and make it a song, feel free to contact me to collaborate.

I’m Not Superman

You made me who I am

They think I’m superman

These feelings I conceal

I don’t know how to feel

They say I am strong, that I am strong

I hide my thoughts that I don’t belong, don’t belong

Honestly I have to say I am a mess

This is the truth I must confess

I can’t speak but inside I’m screaming

Truth is I’m not even breathing

I carry these burdens on my own

My heart is always a stone

I can’t let them see, they can’t see

I’m not who You want me to be

If I let it go, if I forgive, can I forgive

If I surrender can I learn how to live

If I let it go am I weak

I try to ask but I can’t speak

Trying to be who God made me to be

Their words are killing me

They can’t seem to understand

I’m not superman, I’m not superman

You made me who I am

They think I’m superman

I pray to live my life for you

Do they see you in all I do

They just don’t understand

I just can’t be superman
